Due to heavy rainfall, the Surma and Kushiyara rivers in Sylhet, the Manu River in Moulvibazar, and the Halda River in Chittagong flowed above the danger level on Sunday night.
Sarder Udoy Raihan, executive engineer of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC), said: “The water levels in the Kushiyara, Manu, and Khoyai rivers may continue to rise over the next two days and could exceed the danger level.”
The FFWC added that the heavy rainfall continues upstream of these rivers.
Raihan said that the water of the Muhuri, Feni, and Halda rivers of Chittagong division may also flow above the danger level.
According to the FFWC, the water level at the Dalia point of the Teesta River is also flowing at the warning level.
Moulvibazar
In Moulvibazar, 62 flood-affected families took refuge in flood shelters.
The district has prepared 120 flood shelters.
Deputy Commissioner Israil Hossain said: “I visited three areas today. We have distributed dry rations to the families. Altogether 115 tons of rice have been allocated to the district as part of flood preparation. A 27-member flood monitoring team has been formed."
Chittagong
As the Halda is flowing above the danger level, one ton of rice has been allocated to each union of Fatikchhari upazilla.
Fatikchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mozammel Haque Chowdhury said: “Our shelters are prepared.”
Mozammel said that the embankment of the Halda at Narayanhat union got damaged, and around 140 families are affected.
“We are requesting these families to come to the flood shelter,” he said.
Sylhet
As the Surma and Kushiyara are flowing above the danger level, the district has arranged 582 flood shelters.
Four families of Osmaninagar upazilla have taken shelter due to heavy rain.
DC Muhammad Sher Mahbub Murad told Dhaka Tribune: “Dry rations are reserved for flood situations.”
Feni
According to the FFWC, the Feni and Muhuri rivers may flow above the warning level in the next 24 hours.
Saiful Islam, Feni’s DC, told Dhaka Tribune: “The UNOs and other officers are closely monitoring the risky areas.”
The district has prepared 900 bags of dry rations and 299 metric tons of rice, he added.
Lalmonirhat
HM Raqib Haydar, DC of Lalmonirhat, told Dhaka Tribune: “The flood shelters are prepared, but nobody has taken shelter yet. We are expecting that the situation will not decrease, but we are prepared.”
