Shafiqul Alam hails inclusive Pohela Boishakh celebration

Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Shafiqul Alam, expressed his satisfaction over the inclusive celebration of the Bengali New Year, saying that it is a matter of great joy to witness people from all ethnic and cultural communities celebrating the occasion together.

He made the remarks on Monday while speaking to journalists during the Noboborsho celebrations at Ramna Park in Dhaka.

Shafiqul Alam said: “Today at the banyan tree in Ramna, we are witnessing a true gathering of people from all walks of life. Since morning, everyone has been in high spirits as we welcome the Bengali New Year. This year, it was our sincere intention to involve people from all communities across Bangladesh—whether from the hills or the plains—in a united celebration of the occasion.”

He added: “While various ethnic groups have recently celebrated Biju, Boisuk and Sangrai, today we are observing Pohela Boishakh. The celebrations began at 6am with music and poetry in a peaceful and joyful environment.”

Regarding his expectations for the year ahead, he expressed: “We hope for the removal of all forms of adversity in the country and for continued progress and development. Our aspiration was to create a shared space for all communities, regardless of origin to celebrate and share happiness together and I believe that has been achieved.”

Looking ahead, the press secretary added: “We want the Bengali New Year to bring further prosperity. We hope that the plans we have undertaken will lead to increased employment opportunities and help Bangladesh emerge as an economic hub on the global stage."

He concluded saying: "We are also gradually preparing for the upcoming election. As the chief adviser has said, the election will be held sometime between December and next June. We aim to ensure that the electoral process is conducted smoothly and successfully.”
