Religious Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain has said that there is significant controversy regarding the issue of celebrating Eid in alignment with Saudi Arabia in Bangladesh and around the world.
"We do not wish to get involved in this controversy. We aim to remain above the debate. It is not just about the moon sighting committee, but all committees—wherever controversy arises, we wish to avoid it carefully," he said.
He made these comments while responding to journalists' questions after the meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at the Islamic Foundation's conference room in the Baitul Mukarram Mosque in the capital on Sunday.
Khalid Hossain further explained that no decision has been made regarding observing Eid and Ramadan in line with Saudi Arabia.
"In our country, we observe fasting and celebrate Eid after sighting the moon. This is understood in Islamic terminology as become visible. In our country, we have seen the moon with the naked eye, and we are celebrating Eid accordingly," he said.
Earlier, he informed that the moon of the month of Shawwal had been sighted in 14 districts out of 64 in the country. Therefore, Eid will be celebrated on Monday in the country.
