Committees formed to probe Chittagong toxic gas leak

Chittagong District Administration and Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) formed the separate committees on Tuesday morning. Chittagong District Administration Assistant Commissioner Abdus Samad Shikdar said: “A three-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the matter. Additional District Magistrate Mominur Roshid will lead the committee.” He said: “The committee has been asked to submit the probe report within seven working days.” Meanwhile, BCIC formed a 10-member committee which will be led by BCIC Director (Technical and Engineering). The committee was asked to submit the report within three days. Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defence Assistant Deputy Director Mohammad Jashim Uddin said: “Still 10 to 15 parts per million gas is leaking from the tank. We are spraying water to control the gas leak.” He said the situation will soon be brought under control. Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost Nayek Abdul Hamid said: “Fifty-two people were admitted to the hospital last night [Monday].
