Jamaat expresses concern over rape, violence against women and children

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar has expressed deep concern over the increase in rape and violence against women and children in the country.

In a statement sent to the media on Sunday, he said: “On the night of March 5 (Wednesday), an eight-year-old girl who had visited her elder sister's house in Magura district was raped and seriously injured. She is now fighting for her life.”

The statement referred to some recent incidents. "These incidents prove that rape and violence against women have increased in the country. We express deep concern about these unwanted events along with the people of the country.”

He further said: “The rapist and the accomplices of the eight-year-old girl from Magura are guilty of the same crime. They must be given the maximum punishment. These despicable rapists should be apprehended, swiftly brought to trial, and exemplary punishment should be ensured.”

Parwar added: “Women and children are not safe anywhere today—be it on buses, trains, launches, offices, homes, schools, or madrasas. The situation in the country is much worse than what is reflected in newspapers and the media.

"Rape and violence against women have become a severe national problem. Religious leaders, including imams, khatibs, and conscious citizens of society, must build a social resistance against rapists. Rapists should be hated and socially boycotted.”
