An earthquake was felt in Dhaka and several parts of Bangladesh at 6:40am on Tuesday.
The tremor measured 5.1 on the Richter scale.
However, as the epicenter was in the Bay of Bengal near India, its impact in Bangladesh was minimal, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
An official from the department’s Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center said it was a moderate earthquake, originating in the Bay of Bengal near West Bengal and Odisha, India. As the epicenter was underwater, coastal districts experienced stronger tremors.
The epicenter was 501 kilometers from Bangladesh, causing only mild tremors in the country.
However, the earthquake was more strongly felt along the coastal regions of West Bengal and Odisha.
