Adviser: DCs directed to identify fake freedom fighters

Faruk E Azam, adviser for the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, said on Monday that deputy commissioners (DCs) have been instructed to identify fake freedom fighters.

“Those found to be fraudulent will be brought under legal action,” the adviser told journalists on the second day of the DC Conference.

He said the Jatio Muktijoddha Council (Jamuka) has been restructured, and the definition of a freedom fighter is also being revised.

Based on this, freedom fighters across districts will be verified, and fake ones will be identified and dealt with legally, he added.

Faruk also said that the July directorate will be launched this week or soon.

The martyrs of the July uprising will be recognized as July martyrs, while the injured will be recognized as July warriors. Certificates and identity cards will be issued accordingly.

Recognized July warriors will receive one-time and monthly allowances based on categorization.

Those in Category A will receive a one-time payment of Tk5 lakh and a monthly allowance of Tk20,000.

People in Category B will receive a one-time payment of Tk3 lakh and a monthly allowance of Tk15,000.

Category C warriors will receive priority in rehabilitation and government employment opportunities.

In response to a question, he expressed hope that future governments would uphold the spirit of the July uprising and continue to prioritize the recognition and welfare of July martyrs and warriors.
