What are the categories for those injured during July uprising?

The Ministry of Health has registered the names of approximately 13,848 individuals injured during the July uprising.

The ministry classified them into three categories for assistance, medical treatment and rehabilitation.

These categories were revised in a meeting on February 9, presided over by Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Prof Dr Sayedur Rahman.

Based on the revised classifications, the ministry instructed the preparation of a final list to facilitate medical treatment and rehabilitation, according to ministry sources.

Category A

Severely injured individuals requiring lifelong assistance, including those who have lost at least one eye, hand or leg, those completely blind or mentally impaired and those incapable of independent living or work.

Category B

Critically injured individuals who will require long-term support, including those with partial blindness, severe brain injuries or similar conditions.

Category C

Individuals still undergoing hospital treatment but expected to regain the ability to work post-recovery, including those with impaired vision or hearing, bullet wounds, or similar injuries. This category also includes those who have already recovered and resumed normal activities.

Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk E Azam said each martyr’s family will receive a savings certificate worth Tk30 lakh.

Injured individuals will be issued identity cards and granted lifelong allowances and medical benefits, he added.

Severely injured individuals under Category A will receive a one-time payment of Tk5 lakh and a monthly allowance of Tk20,000.

Those with partial disabilities under Category B will receive a lump sum of Tk3 lakh along with a monthly allowance of Tk15,000.

However, individuals classified under Category C will not receive direct financial aid but will be given priority in rehabilitation and employment opportunities.
