An initiative has been taken to diversify jute products, and issues related to the sector will be resolved promptly, assured Commerce, Textiles, and Jute Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin.
He made these remarks on Tuesday night, at the inauguration of a four-day multipurpose jute product fair at Laboni Point on Cox’s Bazar beach. Organized by the Department of Jute and JDPC, the fair is being held under the slogan "Let’s Change the Country, Let’s Change the World."
The Ministry of Commerce provided this information in a press release on Wednesday, 5 February.
During the event, the adviser for textiles and jute said: "We are organizing diverse jute fairs in different locations. The recent completion of the trade fair inspired us to arrange this exhibition in Cox’s Bazar. Participants are happy and optimistic about growth, and the government is providing training facilities for them."
He mentioned that similar fairs would be arranged at the divisional and district levels and assured that issues related to raw materials for jute product manufacturing would be resolved.
On the issue of price stability during Ramadan, the Trade Adviser said: "A recent business conference discussed this in detail. Everyone is working together, and we are hopeful that there will be no price hikes during Ramadan.”
He added: “The supply of essential commodities such as oil, sugar, dates, chickpeas, fish, chicken, eggs, and seasonal vegetables will be ensured."
Among those present at the event were the Director (Administration) of the Department of Jute Satyakam Sen, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin, and Superintendent of Police Muhammad Rahmat Ullah.
Before the inauguration, Sheikh Bashir Uddin visited various stalls at the fair and discussed the potential of jute products with entrepreneurs.
Notably, this year’s multipurpose jute product fair features 33 stalls and will remain open to the public daily from 4pm to 8pm until February 8.
