Actress Pori Moni is set to surrender to the court on Monday in connection with a case filed by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmood, alleging assault, vandalism, and intimidation.
On Sunday night, Pori Moni's lawyer, Nilanjana Rifaat (Suravi), provided this information.
She said: “Pori Moni will appear in court on Monday morning to surrender. We will apply for her bail and are hopeful that the court will grant it.”
Earlier on Sunday, Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Zunaid of Dhaka rejected a time petition and ordered the commencement of the trial by framing charges against Pori Moni and her costume designer, Junaid Baghdadi Jimmy.
The court also issued arrest warrants against them.
Nasir Uddin filed the case on July 6, 2022.
On March 18 last year, the investigation officer, Inspector Md Monir Hossain of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Dhaka district, submitted a report to the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court of Dhaka, confirming evidence of assault and intimidation against Pori Moni and Junaid Baghdadi Jimmy.
On April 18, the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka, presided over by M Saiful Islam, issued summons for both accused to appear in court on June 25.
They surrendered on that date and were granted bail.
