Dense fog: 4 killed in separate crashes on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway

At least four people were killed, and ten others injured in two separate road accidents in Sirajdikhan and Srinagar areas on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway due to dense fog.

The first accident occurred on Thursday night (January 2) near Nimtoli in Sirajdikhan due to dense fog. A minibus of Abdullah Paribahan rear-ended a stationary covered van bound for Mawa, leaving the bus assistant Jibon Sheikh and passenger Raihan dead.

At least 10 passengers were injured in the crash.

Abdul Kader Jilani, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hasara Highway police station, said the front of the bus was completely wrecked in the collision. The injured were taken to Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the assistant and one passenger dead.

Another critically injured passenger, Amit, was referred to Dhaka’s Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital. Four others are receiving treatment at the hospital, while the rest were released after primary care.

Meanwhile, early on Friday morning, another accident occurred in the Sreenagar area of the expressway, leaving two unidentified individuals dead. The incident took place at 4:30am when an unknown vehicle hit a Purasha Paribahan bus.

According to OC Abdul Kader Jilani, the incident happened in the service lane of the Dhaka-bound road near Sreenagar’s Hasara area. The injured were rushed to Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex, where two passengers succumbed to their injuries while being transferred to Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital. Their bodies are currently there.
