Journalists allowed entry into Secretariat 5 days after fire

The government has granted permission to journalists to enter the Secretariat on Monday, five days after the fire.

They were granted access at around 2pm.

Earlier in the day, journalists gathered outside the Secretariat, expecting entry after assurances from the home affairs adviser.

However, as no permission was granted, they staged a sit-in protest in front of Gate 1. Many expressed frustration over the delay.

On Sunday, leaders of the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) held a meeting with Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

During the meeting, he assured that journalists would be issued temporary passes starting Monday.

Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam echoed this assurance, prompting the submission of a list of journalists to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

However, despite these steps, journalists remained unable to access the Secretariat for work until Monday afternoon.
