TIB wraps up three-day data journalism workshop

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) successfully concluded a three-day workshop on data journalism, held at the BCDM Resort in Rajendrapur, Gazipur, on Saturday.

The training, aimed at enhancing data journalism skills, was attended by 25 journalists from various media outlets.

Participants were trained on data collection, analysis, and effective presentation techniques. The workshop also provided hands-on experience with modern computer tools and explored methods for crafting impactful data-driven stories.

Several participants noted that while data journalism is a relatively new field for many, it is highly relevant in the current media landscape. They expressed hope that similar training programs with more advanced modules would be organized in the future, enabling them to refine their skills further.

Organizer is expected to enhance participants’ professional skills and contribute to raising the standard of data-driven reporting in the country.

At the certificate distribution ceremony, TIB’s Executive Director, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, said: "Data journalism not only enhances the credibility of news but also serves as a powerful tool to promote accountability in public and private institutions. This initiative by TIB is a first, and we plan to make it a regular event."

The workshop featured training sessions led by TIB’s Director Mohammad Tauhidur Islam, Digital Rights Managing Director Miraz Ahmed Chowdhury, and Microsoft trainer Anwar Hossain Fakir.

Bloomberg data journalist Nazmul Ahsan also participated virtually, offering insights and expertise to the attendees.

TIB officials, including Assistant Coordinators KM Rafiqul Alam and Rifat Rahman, along with Deputy Coordinator Zafar Siddique, were also present during the program.
