A group of temporary workers of Bangladesh Railway, who had blocked the tracks in Dhaka’s Tejgaon, lifted the blockade after around 2.5 hours.
The protest, which began at 10:45am on Tuesday, was called off around 12:30pm.
The blockade had disrupted train communication between the capital and the northern and eastern regions of the country.
The matter has been confirmed by Kamalapur Railway Station Master Mohammad Anwar.
The protesting workers said that they organized the blockade after repeated meetings with the Ministry of Railways and railway authorities failed to resolve their demands for five months' overdue salaries and the regularization of their jobs.
Following assurances from the authorities that temporary gatekeepers and waymen would receive their overdue salaries by Thursday, the protesters lifted the blockade. However, they warned of resuming their protest on December 22 if the payments are not made by Thursday.
Md Mohiuddin Arif, the Dhaka divisional manager of Bangladesh Railways, said: "The salary delay occurred due to a lack of allocated funds. We have now received the allocation, and the payments will be cleared within the next two days."
