The launch of BRTC buses on the newly established BRT lane marks a significant milestone in improving the daily commuting experience for passengers traveling between Gazipur and Dhaka.
Adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, emphasized that the new buses will provide a more comfortable and efficient travel option.
"The BRT is a Rupnagar project, which we have known about for a while. The deadline has been extended multiple times, but the work was not completed as planned. This project was not benefiting the public. Therefore, we have introduced a service with 10 BRTC buses on the BRT lane as a pilot project. Travel will now be much more comfortable,” he stated.
He made these remarks after the formal inauguration of the AC buses of the BRTC operating from Shibbari in Gazipur to Gulistan in Dhaka, which began service on Sunday morning.
He added: "The remaining work on the BRT lane will continue gradually, and the remaining tasks will be completed."
Earlier, on Saturday, Information and Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Nobel De, said: "Initially, 10 BRTC AC buses will run on the BRT lane from the Shibbari BRT terminal in Gazipur, covering a 20.5km route to the airport, and from the airport to Gulistan, covering a total distance of 42.5km, including the 22km route."
He also mentioned that the fare from Shibbari to the airport has been set at Tk70, and from Shibbari to Gulistan at Tk140.
Considering passenger demand and the full readiness of the stations, the number of buses will be increased later.
