An update on the incidents of communal violence after October 22 will be provided soon, said Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary to the chief adviser, at a briefing on contemporary issues at the Foreign Service Academy on Tuesday afternoon.
From August 5 to October 22, 70 people have been arrested so far in 88 cases of torture against minorities across the country.
The press secretary said: “A total of 88 cases have been filed in the country regarding communal violence from August 5 to October 22. And 70 people have been arrested so far on charges of involvement in communal attacks. All those involved in such heinous incidents will be arrested.”
He also spoke about the Rohingya crisis, saying that Bangladesh is going to hold an international conference on the Rohingya crisis next year.
The conference may be held in September-October next year. The venue and other issues will be decided in March-April.
Shafiqul Alam said: "I hope this conference will be held around September-October next year."
He said: "I hope that all countries in the world will participate. Especially those who are very interested in the Rohingya issue, including the United Nations, the European Union, the United States, India, and China."
Noting that the matter has been discussed with the UN several times, the press secretary said that the chief adviser had informed about this plan when he participated in the UN conference.
In response to a question about Bangladesh's preparedness regarding its 270-kilometre border with Rakhine, Shafiqul Alam said: "We are closely monitoring the entire situation. Given the broader context of the Rohingya crisis, the chief adviser has appointed a high-ranking representative to oversee the situation. This representative will closely monitor developments and engage with all relevant stakeholders."
Shafiqul Alam further said that the government is trying its best to control the market.
The press secretary said that in addition to fixing the price of edible oil, the entire issue is being monitored very strictly to protect the interests of consumers.
The government is trying its best to control the market, and a commission will be formed for this purpose, he added.
He said: "The price of soybeans has increased in the international market in October-November. The government is trying to control it by observing the markets of other countries."
He also said that the trade adviser is in touch with the relevant people in Brazil and Malaysia.
In addition, monitoring is being done so that consumers do not face any inconvenience, and the market demand and supply are in order.
