Recently resigned senior secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen, has been appointed as the chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The two newly appointed commissioners are retired District and Sessions Judge Mia Mohammad Ali Akbar Azizi and Brigadier General (Retd) Hafiz Ahsan Farid.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification regarding these appointments after receiving approval from President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
Separate notifications were also issued on the same day for the appointments of the two commissioners.
On Monday, Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen resigned from his position as Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
On the same day, he submitted his resignation letter to the Chief Adviser.
He was serving in the Public Security Division of the Home Ministry on a contractual basis.
His contract was terminated through a separate order issued by the Ministry of Public Administration.
Reports indicate that Mohammad Abdul Momen was forced into early retirement in 2013 while serving as a Joint Secretary under the then-Awami League government.
After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 following a mass student-citizen uprising, he was appointed Secretary of the Public Security Division in the Ministry of Home Affairs on a contractual basis.
He was later promoted to the rank of Senior Secretary.
Earlier, on October 29, former ACC Chairman Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah resigned from his position.
Additionally, two commissioners, Md Zahurul Haque (Investigation) and Mosammat Asiya Khatun (Inquiry), also stepped down.
Since then, the positions of the ACC Chairman and two commissioners had remained vacant.
