BNP calls for national unity in meeting with CA Yunus

The BNP has called for national unity and dialogue with all political parties to address the ongoing crisis in the country.

The party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made this appeal after a meeting with Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday evening.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mirza Fakhrul emphasized the importance of unity in overcoming the current challenges.

"There are significant challenges ahead, and there is no alternative to national unity. We urge Dr Muhammad Yunus and others to ensure that no division arises in the country," he said.

Mirza Fakhrul explained that the meeting aimed to convey the party's concerns to the chief adviser regarding pressing issues, including the law-and-order situation, recent incidents involving Iskcon, and problems faced by students in various colleges.

"We hope the chief adviser and his council will take swift steps to resolve these issues peacefully," he added.

Claiming that the allies of fascism have come to power by force in all the past elections, Mirza Fakhrul said: “like the municipality and city corporation, the union councils should be dissolved.”

The BNP leader reiterated the party's longstanding demand for a roadmap to free and fair elections following essential reforms.

Addressing public grievances, Mirza Fakhrul highlighted the rising cost of living and urged the interim government to take immediate steps to reduce commodity prices.

"We requested an increase in the number of TCB trucks to help ease the burden on ordinary citizens," he said.

Additionally, he called for the withdrawal of politically motivated cases filed under previous administrations.

During the meeting, the chief adviser and his team listened attentively to the BNP's concerns, according to Mirza Fakhrul.

The chief adviser’s press secretary, Shafiqul Alam, later confirmed that the discussions centered on fostering national unity and resolving the crisis. "The chief adviser called on everyone to remain calm and stressed the need for unity among students, communities, and all segments of society, including Hindus and Muslims," Shafiqul Alam said.

The meeting also touched on the recent unrest in Chittagong, where the authorities have arrested 33 individuals and identified six others through video evidence.

The chief adviser assured the BNP delegation that measures were being taken to address the situation. "Members of the Awami League and banned organizations were also found with explosives during the investigations," the press secretary added.

The five-member BNP delegation, led by Mirza Fakhrul, included standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Salahuddin Ahmed. The team arrived at the state guest house Jamuna around 6 p.m. to discuss their concerns with the interim leadership.
