Depression formed in Bay, ports hoist distant cautionary signal 1

A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression.

It is currently located approximately 2,000 kilometers away from Bangladesh's coast, according to a special bulletin from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Monday.

It says due to rough sea conditions in the area, all maritime ports in Bangladesh have been advised to hoist distant cautionary signal number 1.

Additionally, all fishing boats and trawlers have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.

As of midnight, the depression was located approximately 2,060km south-southwest of Chattogram port, 1,995km south-southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 1,995km south-southwest of Mongla port, and 1,970km south-southwest of Payra port.

It is expected to move in a west-northwesterly direction and intensify further.

The maximum sustained wind speed within 44km of the depression's centre is approximately 40kph, rising to 50kph in gusts or squalls. The sea will remain rough near the depression's centre.
