Jamaat calls for election roadmap announcement at December end

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Prof Mia Golam Parower has urged the swift completion of reform work and the announcement of an election roadmap soon after the end of December.

Speaking on the matter, Prof Parower emphasized that the reforms should not take an extended period. "If these reforms are delayed, it will give the masterminds and conspirators of the murders an opportunity to act again," he warned.

Addressing the interim government's Chief Adviser, Dr Muhammad Yunus, he said: "You did not assume this role to rule the country. Your responsibility is to ensure a credible, free, fair and participatory election by upholding the people's right to vote. To achieve this, you must reform the necessary state organs. These reforms should be completed and a clear election roadmap should be laid out."

Prof Parower made these remarks at a Jamaat-e-Islami workers' conference held on Saturday afternoon at the Government High School grounds in Manikganj town. The conference was organized by the party's district branch.

He said: "Proposals for various reforms have been sought from political parties, including the Jamaat-e-Islami. We are submitting these proposals one by one. The commissions are expected to present their reports by December. Complete the reforms promptly and announce the election roadmap thereafter."

He further highlighted that the state apparatus has been deeply corrupted and plagued by partisanship, calling for comprehensive reforms.

Prof Parower also claimed that, even after August 5, "fascists" are continuing efforts to disrupt the interim government.

"They must not be given that chance. The sacrifices of the martyred students must not be allowed to go in vain," he added.

Regarding the new Election Commission established by the interim government, the Jamaat-e-Islami leader urged: "We call on the Election Commission to expedite preparations for the elections and to reform the administration. This will reassure the public that the elections are being held in a timely manner."

Among other speakers at the workers' conference were Jamaat-e-Islami Central Executive Council member and Regional Director (Dhaka North Region) Muhammad Izzat Ullah as well as Maulana Delwar Hossain, a member of the Dhaka North Region team. The event was presided over by Ameer Hafez Maulana Kamrul Islam, head of the Jamaat-e-Islami's Manikganj District Branch.
