The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam and the Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md Mainul Hasan have been removed from their positions.
Baharul Alam has been appointed as the new IGP.
Additionally, Sheikh Sajjad Ali has been appointed as the new DMP Commissioner.
This appointment was announced in a notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday afternoon.
Baharul Alam has served as the head of the Special Branch (SB) of the police as well as in various positions at the police headquarters.
From 2009 to 2013, he worked as a Police Liaison Officer in the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations. In 2015, he served as the Senior Police Adviser for the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Afghanistan.
Prior to this, he held responsibilities in Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo, and Sierra Leone. He retired in 2020.
