Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has said that future money launderers will face consequences, regardless of whether they are from the public or private sector.
He said this during a seminar titled "Policy Dialogue on Financial and Economic Reforms in Bangladesh," held in Mohakhali, Dhaka, on Saturday.
Dr Salehuddin emphasized that efforts are underway to address the rampant plundering in the economic sector.
He highlighted the need to move away from the existing development strategy, which focuses solely on showcasing progress, and instead adopt more sustainable and transparent approaches.
Regarding reforms in the revenue sector, the adviser said: “Policy formulation and implementation will be separated. Many institutions are on the brink of collapse, and numerous projects have been undertaken without proper feasibility tests. However, multilateral and bilateral partners have assured their support in driving reforms.”
He also cautioned that economic instability could lead to reduced assistance from foreign partners.
On the issue of money laundering, Dr Salehuddin assured: “Steps are being taken to recover laundered funds. In the future, anyone involved in money laundering will be caught, whether they belong to the private or public sector.”
