The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has once again launched an operation in Mirpur to stop the operation of battery-powered auto-rickshaws in the capital.
In this operation, 102 battery-powered auto-rickshaws were seized along with 376 batteries.
The seized auto-rickshaws and batteries were sold at an open auction for Tk18.5 lakh.
On Monday afternoon, DNCC Executive Magistrate Mohammad Mahbub Hasan led the operation in front of Mirpur Bangla School and College on the main road.
He said: "We started the operation last week to stop the illegal battery-powered auto-rickshaws from plying on the main roads. The large number of illegal auto-rickshaws running on the main roads has caused severe traffic jams. Additionally, road accidents have significantly increased. To resolve the traffic issues and ensure road safety, this drive will continue."
The operation was carried out with the participation of the Bangladesh Army, Police, and Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO). Representatives from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement were also present at the scene.
