Nahid: Cyber Security Act to be repealed within a week

ICT Adviser Nahid Islam has announced that the Cyber Security Act (CSA) will be repealed within the next week.

He made this statement during a meeting with the Norwegian Ambassador, Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen, at the ICT Division office on Monday.

Adviser Nahid Islam said: "The law will be repealed within a week and all cases filed under this law will also be dismissed. Not only this law but all laws that hinder freedom of expression are under review. Decisions will be made in consultation with stakeholders regarding the reforms."

He said: "We have gained a new Bangladesh through the uprising of students and the public. The fascist government has committed many irregularities and corruption over the past 16 years. The interim government has started the process of rebuilding the country so that the nation and its people can recover from the damage."

When the Norwegian ambassador inquired about the persecution of minorities in Bangladesh, Nahid Islam said: "The minorities in Bangladesh are safe. Special security measures were taken for them during the recent Durga Puja and their holidays were extended. The previous fascist government engaged in political games regarding minorities, identifying them as a vote bank. Although significant incidents of minority persecution occurred during their tenure, they did not seek justice."
