Ilias Kanchan, chairman of the Nirpad Sarak Chai (NISCHA) and a prominent actor, intervened to withdraw the hunger strike of job seekers at Shahbagh.
The protesters have been demanding the issuance of a notification based on the recommendations of a committee regarding the age limit for entering government jobs.
Considering the current situation in the country and the protesters' physical condition, the protesters agreed to leave Shahbagh at Ilias Kanchan's request.
Ilias Kanchan went to the spot in front of the National Museum around 3:30pm on Wednesday and urged the job seekers to end their hunger strike.
During the event, he said that this government has come to power position in a fragile phase.
“I hope the protesters will maintain regular communication with the government. I will also try to speak on this matter from my position.”
One of the organizers of the movement, Mohammad Harun, said: “We have left Shahbagh at the request of actor Ilias Kanchan. In the future, we will assess the situation and call for a grand rally demanding the swift issuance of a notification to implement the 35-year age limit. We hope the interim government will quickly issue a notification to fulfill our demands before that.”
The protesters had held a continuous sit-in for six hours demanding the age limit be raised to 35 years for government jobs and announced the hunger strike at 6pm on Monday.
They had been on hunger strike for about 45 hours since then.
Job seekers have been demanding for an increase in the age limit for government jobs for a long time. In response to their demands, the interim government formed a committee on September 30 to review the proposal to raise the age limit for entry into government service.
On October 14, Chowdhury informed reporters at the secretariat that they had recommended raising the maximum age limit for entering government jobs to 35 years for men and 37 years for women.
However, the final decision on the age limit will depend on the government's discretion.
