Sarjis: Students to decide President’s fate

Sarjis Alam, one of the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said students will decide what action should be taken against President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

"If a person like President Mohammed Shahabuddin says that he does not have the documents of Sheikh Hasina's resignation, then it will be up to the student community to decide what action should be taken against him."

Sarjis Alam made the comments while participating in a roundtable discussion organized by Islami Andolan in Segunbagicha on Monday.

During the event, Sarjis Alam also described the Jatiya Party as a "conscience-less party," saying: "The Jatiya Party is a party without a conscience. They supported the fascist Awami League. There is no reason to engage in political discussions with them."

He further added: "The fascist system has not gone away yet. Various agencies and conspirators are trying to create instability in the country. We must resist them. If necessary, we will take to the streets once again."

Earlier, President Mohammed Shahabuddin said he heard that Sheikh Hasina had resigned as prime minister before she fled Bangladesh, but he does not have documentary evidence.

Despite numerous efforts, he had failed to find any documents, the president told Manab Zamin Editor-in-Chief Matiur Rahman Chowdhury during a conversation, published in the Bangla daily’s political magazine Jonotar Chokh on Saturday.

“Perhaps she did not have the time,” the president said.
