Rains likely to drench Bangladesh in next 24hr

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers across all divisions, including Dhaka, over the next 24 hours starting from 9am on Wednesday.

"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely to occur in a few places over Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and in one or two places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, and Chittagong divisions, with moderately heavy falls in some areas," said a BMD update.

The highest rainfall in the country, 50 millimeters, was recorded in Netrokona in the 24 hours leading up to 6am on Wednesday.

Day and night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged across the country, according to the BMD.

Sayedpur recorded the highest temperature at 35.5°C over the past 24 hours until 6 pm on Tuesday, while the lowest temperature, 23.5°C, was recorded in Netrokona as of 6am on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the monsoon trough runs through Bihar and West Bengal to Assam across the central part of Bangladesh. The monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate over the North Bay.
