Another prosecutor appointed at ICT

Lawyer Md Saimum Reza Talukdar has been appointed as a prosecutor at the International Crimes Tribunal.

A notification was issued by the Solicitor Wing of the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, on Monday.

Earlier on September 5, a notification was issued appointing a total of five prosecutors, including the Chief Prosecutor, to the International Crimes Tribunal.

In that notification, Mohammad Tajul Islam, a lawyer from the Supreme Court, was appointed as the Chief Prosecutor.

Additionally, four other Supreme Court lawyers were appointed as members of the tribunal's prosecutor team.

The other four lawyers appointed as prosecutors were Md Mizanul Islam, Gazi Monawar Hossain Tamim, BM Sultan Mahmood, and Abdullah Al Noman. However, lawyer Md Mizanul Islam has not yet joined.

The International Crimes Tribunal was established 39 years after independence to prosecute crimes against humanity committed in 1971.

The tribunal officially commenced its activities on March 25, 2010. Subsequently, another tribunal, Tribunal-2, was established on March 22, 2012. However, on September 15, 2015, the two were merged to form a single tribunal, which has been conducting the trials of those accused of crimes against humanity from 1971.

Following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, the prosecutors of the tribunal also resigned.
