Special taskforce formed to monitor market situation at district level

Amid the rising price of essential commodities in the kitchen market, the interim government on Monday formed a special task force to monitor and review the market situation and supply chain of essential commodities at the district level.

The government took this initiative, when the general people are struggling to purchase their daily essentials from the market, because of the recent price hike of vegetable, eggs, oil and almost every product of the market.

This information was revealed in a notification signed by the Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Mehedi Hasan.

Additional Deputy Commissioner will be the convener of this special task force and Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection will be the member secretary.

Additional Superintendent of Police, District Food Controller or appropriate representative, District Livestock Officer or appropriate representative, District Fisheries Officer or appropriate representative, Agriculture Marketing Officer or Senior Agricultural Marketing Officer, CAB representative and two student representatives will be members of the taskforce.

According to the notification, the taskforce will regularly visit different markets, large warehouses, godowns / cold storage and other places of the supply chain and will monitor the prices of essential commodities at a reasonable level.

The task force will also ensure that the price difference between production, wholesale and consumer levels is minimal and will hold view exchange meetings with all stakeholders.

After daily monitoring, the taskforce will send a report to the Price Review and Forecast Cell of the Ministry of Commerce and the Central Control Room of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection.

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection will submit a report to the commerce ministry by 7:00pm every day after compiling and reviewing reports received from different districts.

The notification also states that the task force can co-opt members if necessary.
