Mild heatwave bakes parts of Bangladesh

A mild heatwave is sweeping parts of the country and it may abate from some places, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

The heat wave is affecting Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions as well as Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Kishoregonj, Narayangonj, Sylhet, Feni, Jessore and Chudanga districts, and it may abate from some places, the BMD said in a bulletin on Monday.

It also forecast rain or thundershowers across the country in 24 hours from 9am.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind are likely in many places in Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions and in a few places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions, with moderately heavy to heavy fall in some places across the country, it said.

The highest rainfall in 24 hours to 6am was recorded in Cox's Bazar at 55 millimetres.

Day and night temperatures may fall slightly across the country, according to the BMD.

The highest temperature was recorded in Rangpur at 38.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday while the lowest temperature, 25 degrees Celsius, was recorded in Bandarban on Monday.
