The barricade of Kuril toll plaza on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway has been vandalized by miscreants centring the crossing of a pickup van.
The incident took place at 9:48am.
A CCTV video footage from the Kuril toll plaza has spread on social media, particularly Facebook.
The video shows a group of 30-40 people wearing caps (tupi) and pajama-punjabis standing in front of the toll plaza in a pickup van. When the toll plaza employees tried to stop them, a verbal altercation ensued.
At one point, an individual got out of the pickup van and, during an argument with a person at the toll booth, broke down the plaza's barricade.
Regarding the incident, the project director of the Elevated Expressway, AHM Akhtar, told Dhaka Tribune that about 30-40 people were traveling in the pickup van.
He stated that pickup vans, motorcycles, CNGs, and rickshaws are not allowed on the elevated expressway because they can cause accidents at any time. If they fall, it could lead to major accidents. Therefore, such vehicles are prohibited on the expressway.
“However, the people in the pickup van did not want to comply with this regulation and ended up causing the incident before paying the toll and leaving. It remains unknown where they came from,” added the official.
He added that they have informed the police about the incident and an investigation is underway.
In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhatara police station, Mozaharul, stated: "I have seen the incident on Facebook. However, we have not received any complaints yet."
