Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has once again highlighted the issue of border killings and stated that Bangladesh expects New Delhi to address the matter seriously.
"This is a very sensitive issue. We are constantly communicating that, and we expect them to take it seriously. We have mentioned in our protest note that those responsible should be brought to justice. We have clearly stated that we condemn this," he said on Tuesday, referring to the recent protest note following the death of a Bangladeshi teenager Swarna Das at BSF shooting.
Another Bangladeshi teenager was also shot dead at the Baliadangi border in Thakurgaon just a few days later.
Referring to the latest killing at the Baliadangi border, the foreign affairs advisor said, "We will issue a similar protest regarding what happened yesterday. Wherever we get the opportunity, we will raise our concerns. This is having a negative impact on Bangladesh-India relations, and it is in the best interest of both countries to move beyond this. I have not heard anyone say that this benefits India in any way."
When asked whether Bangladesh would seek justice if protests don't yield results, Touhid Hossain responded: "We have strengthened our protest language. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but that is all we can do for now. We won’t escalate this into a war."
