Former shipping minister Shajahan Khan arrested

Awami League Presidium member and former shipping minister Shajahan Khan has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) from the capital.

He was arrested from a residence in Dhanmondi late Thursday night.

The matter was confirmed by DMP’s Additional Police Commissioner (Detective) Rezaul Karim Mallik.

The police officer said that details about the case under which he was arrested would be provided later.

Shajahan Khan was elected as a member of parliament from the Madaripur-2 constituency for the eighth consecutive term. He is also the executive president of the Bangladesh Workers Federation.

He was first elected as an MP from the Madaripur-2 constituency as an independent candidate in 1986.
