In connection with the death of a garment worker named Monirul Islam during the anti-discrimination student movement in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, a case has been filed against 130 individuals, including former MP Shamim Osman and former Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Dr Selina Hayat Ivy.
The case was filed on the night of Tuesday, by the victim's brother, Nazmul Haque, at Siddhirganj police station.
Additionally, 200-300 unidentified individuals have also been named as defendants.
Siddhirganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Bakar Siddique, confirmed the matter on Wednesday morning.
The other accused in the case include former minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former MP for Narayanganj-2 Nazrul Islam Babu, former MP for Narayanganj-1 Golam Dostagir Gazi, former MP for Narayanganj-3 Kaiser Hasanat, Shamim Osman's nephew Azmeri Osman and his son Ayon Osman.
The case alleges that Obaidul Quader instructed the party's various wings, including the Jubo League and Chhatra League, along with criminals, to suppress the student movement.
On July 20, following his directives, 300-400 armed individuals led by the accused attempted to thwart the student and public protests using firearms, shotguns, pistols, and other weapons.
They advanced while detonating crude bombs and firing indiscriminately.
At around 6pm that day, Monirul Islam, a garment worker, encountered the attackers in the area.
During the confrontation, Shamim Osman fired at Monirul with a firearm, hitting him below the left kidney, according to the case documents.
Monirul was later taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead by the attending doctors.
