Metro rail resumes service after 37 days

After being suspended for 37 days, the metro rail has resumed passenger services starting from Sunday, the first working day of the week.

Two trains departed from Uttara North metro rail station towards Motijheel at 7:10am and 7:20am on Sunday morning.

On Saturday, Md Zakaria, the additional project director of the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Line-6), said that trial runs were conducted on Thursday and Friday.

On Saturday, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) announced in a press release that necessary travel guidelines for passengers would be available on DMTCL's official website and Facebook page.

However, due to unavoidable reasons, the metro rail will not stop at Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations for the time being, and passenger services at these stations will remain suspended.

According to the published schedule, only MRT Pass holders can travel on the trains departing from Uttara North Metro Rail Station at 7:10am and 7:20am.

After 9:13pm, only MRT Pass holders can travel on the trains departing from Motijheel metro rail station.

Single journey tickets can be purchased from the metro rail stations between 7:20am and 8:50pm.

Additionally, MRT Passes can be purchased and topped up during this time.

After 8:50pm, all ticket sales offices and ticket vending machines at Metro Rail stations will be closed.

During the student-led protests on July 18, miscreants set fire to the police box under the metro line in the Mirpur-10 roundabout area.

The train passed through the fire. Later, in the interest of public safety, metro rail operations were suspended from 5:30pm that day.

The next evening, on July 19, miscreants vandalized the Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations extensively. They destroyed ticket vending machines, passenger entry punch machines, and everything else in the main stations. Pallabi and Mirpur-11 stations were also attacked on the same day.

On December 29, 2022, the metro rail was opened to the public from Uttara to Agargaon. Later, on November 4, 2023, the section from Agargaon to Motijheel was inaugurated.

After the metro rail service from Uttara North Station to Motijheel was launched, approximately 300,000 passengers commuted daily.
