Resignation of 13 International Crimes Tribunal prosecutors accepted

The interim government has accepted the resignations of 13 prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Crimes Tribunal, effective from the date of their submission.

This information was confirmed in a notification issued by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on Wednesday.

According to the notification, the prosecutors who resigned include acting chief prosecutor Syed Haider Ali, along with Rezaur Rahman, Rana Dasgupta, Md Mokhlesur Rahman Badal, Altaf Uddin Ahmed, Md Sultan Mahmud, Md Sahidur Rahman, Abul Kalam, Tapas Kanti Bal, Razia Sultana Begum, Sheikh Mushfaq Kabir, Md Zahid Imam, and Sabina Yasmin Khan.

The International Crimes Tribunal was established 39 years after Bangladesh's independence to prosecute crimes against humanity committed in 1971.

Tribunal-1 began its official operations on March 25, 2010, followed by the creation of Tribunal-2 on March 22, 2012.

On September 15, 2015, the two tribunals were merged into one, which is now functioning as the International Crimes Tribunal-I, where trials are currently ongoing.
