BNP leader Farroque sues Harun, Biplob for attempted murder after 13yrs

On July 6, 2011, Zainul Abdin Farroque, the then chief whip of the opposition and adviser to the BNP Chairperson, was attacked by police officers Harun and Biplob on the road in front of the South Plaza of the Parliament.

13 years later, the BNP leader filed a case at Sher-e-Bangla Police Station over the incident on Monday.

The plaintiff alleged that the incident involved Harunor Rashid, the then additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of the Tejgaon Division and currently additional commissioner of the DMP, and Biplob Kumar Sarkar, the then assistant commissioner (AC) and currently joint commissioner of the DMP.

Many leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations were present during the filing.

After leaving the police station, Zainul Abdin Farroque said that in 2011, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia had called for a two-day strike (hartal) on behalf of the party.

During the hartal, he, along with his comrades, was leading a procession from the front of the National Parliament building towards Farmgate when police officers Harun and Biplob, along with their subordinates, obstructed the procession.

After an exchange of words, Harun and Biplob, with their forces, attacked him.

During the attack, he suffered injuries to his head, and he lost consciousness after being tortured. His ligaments and left kidney were also damaged.

He further alleged that following the incident, BNP MP Ashraf Uddin Nizam tried to file a case at Sher-e-Bangla police station but was not allowed entry by the police officers at that time.

Later, when they filed the case in court, it was dismissed within three days after investigation.

Additionally, the police filed a case against him, for which he is still attending hearings to this day.

He said: "Today, the country is moving towards democracy through the bloodshed of the students and people. I hope that under the interim government, established through the revolution of the students and the people, I will receive justice for the attempted murder that happened to me."
