Awami League leader bathes in milk, leaves politics in Comilla

An Awami League leader named Kamruzzaman Masud has left the party by bathing in milk in Comilla.

The former Awami League leader was the Fatehabad Union Awami League general secretary and current Fatehabad Union Parishad chairman.

Masud announced his resignation at a press conference on Saturday afternoon and bathed with milk on the roof of his residence.

During the event, he said: "I was elected as the chairman by the people's vote, not as a party chairman. I never wanted to go against the students and the public. However, I was unaware of what would happen in the Debidwar municipal area on August 4. Some senior party leaders misled me and took me there."

He further said: “They had told me that there would be a mourning assembly at Debidwar to remember the students who were killed in the protest. Upon arriving, I saw that Awami League and Chhatra League members clashed with the students and people. I was in between the two sides, and even though I wanted to, I couldn't stand by the students who were attacked."

He added, "Driven by my conscience, I say it is not right to work with any party that sheds the blood of our student. I always wanted to be on the side of my people in Fatehabad. They elected me by a large margin.

“Although I have been involved with Awami League politics long, I have repeatedly been deprived. Even though I wanted to be a candidate for Awami League in the Fatehabad UP election, the party did not nominate me. I have always been attacked by other members of the same party. Therefore, today I voluntarily resign from the post of general secretary of Fatehabad Union Awami League."

"I am no longer associated with Awami League politics. In the future, I want to be involved in social activities and serve the people," he added.
