BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed is returning home after spending nine years in Shillong, Meghalaya, India.
BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan said he will arrive in Dhaka from Delhi on Sunday afternoon.
Salahuddin Ahmed was acquitted by a judge's court in Shillong, India, on February 28, 2023.
He received his travel permit on June 12 of the same year.
During this period, he visited Delhi before the 12th national parliamentary election and sought medical services.
Salahuddin Ahmed has been in Shillong, Meghalaya, since May 11, 2015, following a two-month period he was missing within the country.
His party and family allege that on the night of March 10, 2015, he was forcibly taken from his home in Uttara, Dhaka, by individuals claiming to be from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and other law enforcement agencies.
He was then seen aimlessly wandering in India two months later.
Following his disappearance, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia held a press conference demanding his whereabouts.
After his rescue, a case was filed against him in India for illegal entry.
This legal proceeding lasted for over three and a half years, concluding on August 13, 2018.
On October 26, 2018, he was acquitted of the charges of illegal entry by the court.
Later, the Indian government appealed against the court's decision. On February 28, 2023, he was acquitted by the judge's court in Shillong.
