Jahangirnagar University VC, proctor resign

The Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU), Prof Dr Md Nurul Alam, has resigned from his position, citing personal reasons. 

Dr Alam submitted his resignation via email to President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Wednesday.

In his resignation letter, Dr Alam wrote: “I was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University on September 13, 2022, by the order of the President, and accordingly, I tried my best to fulfill my duties. Presently I resign from the post due to personal and family reasons.”

Dr Alam was initially appointed as VC on a routine basis on March 1, 2022. 

Subsequently, on April 17, 2022, the Ministry of Education temporarily assigned him the role, and on September 13, 2022, he was officially given a four-year term as Vice-Chancellor by the President’s order.

Meanwhile, Prof Dr Alamgir Kabir has also resigned from his positions as Proctor and Provost of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Hall. 

He submitted his resignation to the university registrar, Abu Hasan, around 5pm on Monday.

When asked about his resignation, Dr Kabir said: “There are many reasons people have; there are illnesses, personal reasons, wills, and reluctances. Just like that, I resigned voluntarily.”
