At least six people have been killed and over 100 injured in a clash between protesters and police in Habiganj on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Hasan Mia, 12, Ashraful, 17, Nayan, 18, Mojakkir, 40, Tofazzal, 18 and Sadiqur, 30.
The incident took place around 12pm when the protesters were marching towards Boro Bazar area and officers from the Baniachong police station blocked them.
Later, a clash broke out between the two groups and police fired tear gas cells, rubber bullets and sound grenades to disperse the protesters.
Habiganj civil surgeon Dr Md Nurul Haque said they have been informed of the six deaths.
Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Baniachong police station, said: "We don't know how many people died. Now we are all scattered. I don't even know about the police station. There seems to be no one in the police station.”
Zilufa Sultana, deputy commissioner of Habiganj along with the army visited the police station.
