Army chief: No state of emergency amid Sheikh Hasina’s resignation

While Sheikh Hasina has resigned from the post of prime minister, Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman said that no state of emergency will be declared in the country.

He said there is no need for emergency if the situation is calm.

He said these things in his address to the nation on Monday.

The army chief said: “We will form an interim government and manage the country. I promise we will prosecute all murders and injustices.”

Urging the countrymen not to be disorderly, the army chief said: “Have faith in the army. We will accept all your demands.”

He said: “The army will not fire. Police won't shoot either. We will make a decision by tonight. But it may take a couple of days to execute.”

Before this, the army and various political leaders and prominent people held a meeting with President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
