Protesters hold procession for justice at Uttara

The protesting students brought out a protest march in the streets and alleys next to the BNS Centre in Uttara of the capital on Saturday afternoon.

At this time, they are also seen standing with placards.

The Student Against Discrimination, a platform that has been continuing the quota reform movement, called for protest marches across the country on Saturday. 

Residents of the Uttara area and parents of students are also with them.

Around 3:30pm, police and Awami League activists were seen taking positions in front of and around the BNS Centre.

 At that time, two teams of police were stationed under the BNS centre.

Students started marching with different slogans and placards in the back lane of BNS Centre.

The academic institutions are- the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT), Shanta Mariam, Uttara University, City University, Manarat University, Rajuk College, Uttara High School, Milestone College, Armed Police Battalion.

 There were students of nearby educational institutions including schools, trust colleges.

They took a position on the sidewalk with placards.

A student of Uttara University standing behind the BNS Center said: "We have come here today to implement the previously announced program. We could not come out at the specified time, students could not come due to various reasons. However, in other places there were timely protests. Our program was in front of BNS Centre. But we didn't go there again because of the police presence.”

Aftab Ahmed, a parent who stood with the students in the procession, said:"I have come here today for the safety of my children. We don't want conflict, we want peace.”

At this time, the students said: “Our 9-point demand has now become a single point. That is the resignation of the government. It is not only the demand of the students, it is now the demand of the mass people.”

After staging a demonstration there, they left the place and went to different places under the instructions of the coordinators.

A protesting student said that instructions have just arrived to go to the Central Shaheed Minar.

“We will go there now. But here too our students will stay.”

Police were seen on high alert in front of the BNS Centre and the surrounding areas, as opposed to the protest program of the students.

Besides, 30-40 police are stationed at each point.

Also, Armed Personal Carrier (APC) has been kept to deal with the situation. Leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliated organizations can be seen standing on the road with them.
