The National Pension Scheme Authority has announced that the newly introduced Public Pension Guarantee Scheme will come into effect from the next year.
A notification was published in this regard on Sunday.
The notification outlined the implementation timeline and details for the scheme.
Under the new regulations, teachers at public universities and other self-governing and state-owned institutions who commence their service on or after July 1, 2025, will be eligible for retirement benefits under this scheme.
The universal pension scheme, which was launched on August 17 of last year, aims to provide comprehensive retirement coverage across various sectors, including public universities.
The scheme’s roll out was initially scheduled for July 1, 2024.
However, significant protests from university teachers, who have argued that the scheme is discriminatory, have marked its launch.
Teachers have been on strike since the scheme’s intended start date, demanding amendments and expressing dissatisfaction with the new policy.
