The ruling party Awami League urged its leaders and activists to perform special prayers in all mosques across Bangladesh on Friday after the Jummah prayers for those who were killed and injured during the nationwide unrest.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader made this call through a press release signed by its Office Secretary Biplab Barua on Thursday.
The ruling party urged the same prayers to be offered in all temples, churches and pagodas on Sunday.
Earlier, in a meeting with Dhaka North City Corporation-based party leaders at the Awami League Tejgaon office, senior leaders of the ruling party said they have information that after the Jummah prayers, BNP and Jamaat activists may bring some protests in several places.
Then the Awami League leaders urged the party activists to take cautious positions at mosques so that no one can demotivate the worshipers at the mosques.
In the afternoon Awami League senior leaders held another meeting at the Bangabandhu Avenue office with the Dhaka South City Corporation leaders and gave the same message.
After the meeting, Obaidul Quader told the media: “The criminals went into hiding and they can attack anytime to make the situation worse. BNP and Jamaat want to seize the state power through sudden attacks.”
