Quota movement: 62 policemen airlifted from CUB roof

A helicopter rescued 62 police officers from the roof of the Canadian University of Bangladesh in Merul Badda, Dhaka.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) used a helicopter for the rescue.

The police officers were stranded on the roof for about three and a half hours.

A senior RAB official confirmed the incident on Wednesday, said the daily Samakal.

He said: "The police headquarters requested RAB to rescue the stranded officers. In response, they were safely evacuated using RAB's helicopter."

A video circulating on social media platform Facebook shows a helicopter flying over the roof. The police officers are seen boarding the helicopter one by one in an orderly manner.

Earlier in the morning, there were repeated clashes between police and students demanding quota reform in front of Brac University in Merul Badda.

At one point, the police entered the Canadian University of Bangladesh, while the protesters remained outside. From within the university, police fired birdshots and rubber bullets, injuring many.
