Pension scheme: JU teachers announce sit-in on Tuesday

Jahangirnagar University Teachers' Association is set to stage a sit-in program on the campus protesting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's remarks on the teachers' movement.

The association’s General Secretary Prof Shahed Rana on Monday said they will continue their ongoing movement demanding the withdrawal of the discriminatory Prottoy scheme announced by the Ministry of Finance.

The decision was taken at an emergency general meeting on Monday.

The teachers will protest by tying a black cloth around their mouths.

They also demanded forming an investigation committee to probe the clash between anti-quota protesters and the Chhatra League at the JU campus on Sunday night.

On Sunday, responding to a question about the agitating teachers at a press conference Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that there are some misconceptions in the demands of the university teachers about the pension scheme.

“We have made a universal pension scheme for everyone. Let them protest till they are tired. We will sit with them then,” she said.
