Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday said upholding the spirit of Razakar makes one a Razakar.
He said this at an emergency press conference at the political office of the Awami League president in Dhanmondi.
Obaidul Quader said the Prime Minister's statement given at the press conference on Sunday was distorted by the leaders, conspirators and masterminds behind the movement to serve their interests.
There cannot be a law for Razakars in a country that became independent in exchange for the blood of 300,000 martyrs. “I want to assert that the Bangali nation will not tolerate any insult to the great Liberation War and freedom fighters.”
“How can students who do not respect the great sacrifices of their university teachers and proudly identify as Razakars do not feel ashamed to call themselves students of Dhaka University?,” asked Quader.
Commenting on the sufferings of public life caused by the movement, the minister said: "We cannot accept any meeting or rally that creates public suffering. I am observing that the true nature of the evil forces, including BNP-Jamaat, has been exposed in this movement."
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has described slogans in which quota reform protesters are derisively calling themselves Razakars as regrettable, saying they do not feel ashamed to call themselves Razakars.
The prime minister on Monday was referring to "Who are you? Who am I? Razakar, Razakar" chanted by the protesters following her remark about the movement a day earlier.
