The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of the police has arrested an active member of the banned militant organization Ansar al-Islam, who was secretly training and recruiting members under the guise of running a fish farm.
The arrestee is Parvin Akhtar, 24, a resident of Cox's Bazar sadar.
Two mobile phones used in extremist activities were seized from her possession.
Police Superintendent Mahfuzul Alam Russel from the ATU's Media and Awareness Wing disclosed this information on Tuesday.
The police official said: "Arrested Parvin Akhter and her associates were giving training and recruiting members for the banned group under the guise of running a fish farm. They used the fish farm as a training centre, discreetly gathering and training recruits from across the country using their vehicles."
Three years ago, accused Hamim Hossain alias Fahim rented a farmhouse on two and a half acres of land for five years.
Fahim, his wife Umme Hafsa, Parvin Akhter and her husband Rashid Ahmed (organizational name Tanvir) used to live in the two-storey pucca house of the fish farm. Parvin Akhter went into hiding after Fahim was arrested on June 5 with arms and ammunition by Raipura police station in Narsingdi.
