M Faroque Amin, a former diplomat, passed away on the evening of Wednesday, June 12, before Eid ul Azha.
He was the eldest of six to his father, late Md Abdul Halim and his mother, late Syeda Shaheda Begum.
Faroque is survived by his five siblings and his two daughters, Sanam and Shayan.
His wife, Rounak Ara Amin, passed previously in September 2023.
Faroque Amin was a graduate of Dhaka University, where he received his MA in English in 1974.
He was an alumnus of Rajshahi Cadet College, from where he completed his SSC in 1968 and HSC in 1970.
He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1980 as a section officer, and was posted to Paris, France, as Second Secretary in 1986, and then as First Secretary from 1987 to 1990.
He had subsequent postings in Tokyo, Japan (1990-1993), as director for various portfolios for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1996, in Kathmandu, Nepal (1996-1998), Tehran, Iran (1998-2001) and in Paris, France (2001-2003).
His last role before retirement was as director general at the Foreign Services Academy.
He was a great supporter and friend to several contemporary Bangladeshi artists, and lover of books and literature.
Faroque Amin’s namaz-e-janaza was held in Motijheel on Thursday, June 13.
He was buried in Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard in Dhaka.
A dua mahfil prayer will be held for him on Friday, July 5, at his sisters’ residence in Motijheel.
